10 hour flight from Singapore, kept awake by screaming child so tired on arrival. Collected campervan and set up last night at a motel near Christchurch. Good sleep and the sun was shining after rain on our arrival. However, what a brilliant day today has been. This morning we went into Christchurch to see earthquake damage, 4 years on but much of city centre is still like a bomb site. I never realised the extent of the damage. The destroyed cathedral is a lasting reminder, much of the city centre is now car parks.
What a difference from where we are now in the shadow of Mt. Cook. What an amazing journey from the flatland south of Christchurch, suddenly the blue of Lake Tekapo with the snow covered Alps came into view. Then the normally cloud covered Mt Cook came into full view, snow covered and clear. We are so privileged to have have seen it in it’s full glory! BBQ tonight then another day here for some serious walking in the mountains followed by another night here, A quiet and lovely campsite.
