On the hottest day of the year with temps up to 30 degrees, I rode from Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton to Brighton and back. Stuart and his mate Steve rode below their normal speed to wait for me. However, I found it very hard due to the undulating route. We had to go over the North and South Downs including the infamous Ditchling Beacon. However, I got up that Ok, slow but steady. Hardest was on the way back – very tired over the Epsom Downs. No mishaps and I managed the ride in 7 .25 hours at an average speed of 13.6mph which was faster than my normal rides. Got home- hot bath and slept for over an hour. Hot weather continues tomorrow when I will be moving my Mum from her home of 50 years to a new flat in Vinters Road. Work also starts on our new kitchen so a busy time all round.
Forgot to log that I did my first 200K Audax a few weeks ago. Circuit round Kent- windy on the Marsh. Looking forward to the biggest yet- 300k at the end of June. Starts at 2.00am- now that is a challenge!
