Good ride with MikeD to Penshurst but when nearly there and turned onto the Penshurst Place road there was Uncle Les laying on the ground with his daughter Julie trying to sort him out. We arrived just after Les had hit a pothole and come off his new bike. We took a while to check him over but he had hurt his ribs and elbow. Nothing broken so we helped him onto his bike and we rode to the cafe. He was looking uncomfortable but in typical Les fashion he decided to ride with the group to lunch at Benover near Yalding. I decided to stay with him as I was worried as he was only in hospital a couple of weeks ago and had a pacemaker fitted! Julie had to go home so she rode with Mike who decided to go back home after coffee. Les enjoyed his fish and chips at the Woolpack Benover before the ride home to Tun Wells. I rang him in the evening, he was a bit sore but OK. I will call him again tomorrow, I hope he has only bruised around his ribs and not a fracture. I am finding I have to keep an eye on our two octogenarians in our group!
Last night Viv and Steve came to dinner. We had a lovely evening with plenty to chat about and this afternoon I had a message to say they had both arrived home safely in Derbyshire. With a successful visit to Mum and a chance to see their family it was a very worthwhile trip. I had a message from Barty today, On weekdays we no longer have to make an appointment to see Mum. This is between 10.00 and 3.00pm. Weekends and BH bookings still apply. Tests and PPE still required and only nominated people can attend. Pleased that Les is going to see Mum next Thursday, I hope he will be OK.
The Indian Covid variant is pushing up cases again but Boris says we are still on target for a complete removal of restrictions on 21st June. I and many others are not so sure. Dominic Cummings certainly isn’t he really slammed the PM and Matt Hancock with terrible accusations which they both deny as one would expect. We will know more next week when more data is available.
