Since the thaw a few days ago it hasn’t hardly stopped raining. I have managed one run to practice my Mt Everest equivalent run in April for our Rotary charity event. I ran up and down the 17% gradient Old Loose Hill 5 times two days ago. I had originally calculated that four climbs a day would equal sea level to summit of Everest. A miscalculation, I should have said base camp to summit. Now it is 6 hill climbs per day. More training needed.
Thinking it would be light rain today I rode to Brenchley and had a throughly soaked ride with friend Mike. By the time I was home after 40 miles I was freezing cold and wet. I don’t know how Mike does it at 86!
Caught up with news tonight with Viv. She has bought a new fold up electric bike and she and Steve have been out riding in Derbyshire enjoying the lovely weather. I had a nice chat with Uncle Les tonight. He was 88 last week and is bored being confined at home, he can’t wait to be out on the bike again. He told me that his brother Geoff will be 90 in June but is in good health still. So Mum stays in the lead, she will be 96 in June and by all the signs she will make it. Eating habit waivers a bit, but on the whole she is eating and drinking reasonably well. She even played Bingo the other day which she always hated. Didn’t last long she had one of her “heads” at a convenient time! The home reports she is still going on unnaccompanied walkabouts and they are concerned that she keeps hiding her food under the bed or in a cupboard. I am sure I reported that recently but she is still doing it.
No sign that visitors will be allowed in to see her in the near future, I must admit I am looking forward to the old visits even though I was fully PPEd. I miss Mum telling me to “take off that silly mask I can’t here a word you are saying”!
The PM will be reporting next week on a very slow and staggered end to the lockdown. Schools will probably go back on March 8th. I think the time has come for that at least. I can’t understand why teachers weren’t given priority vaccinations. Saturday only this week at Blackthorn for vaccines but then next week it is back to Pfizer and we have 3 half days and 1 full day. That will keep us busy. I’ll sort out the rota tomorrow.
