Only today for this week at Blackthorn but the team managed 800 vaccines. To do that they increased the registration points and entry doors to three and there were three vaccinators. At one time this morning we had queues back to the main entrance but kept a strict 2m social difference. Many of the patients were from the ME15 area so taking no chances. Our shift from 8.00 till 10.00 was really busy but with a lot of interesting people. All, except one man who refused to move his car from blocking the entrance, were lovely and really grateful. We managed to collect a few quid in the charity box from grateful patients. It is most rewarding doing this job by being able to help support Dr Hanrath and his team of wonderful medics and staff.
For the first time we had one of our new volunteers drop out just before the late shift. I rang her, she was in tears. She had heard that her best friend had just died of Covid. She leaves behind a 16 year old daughter. I don’t know the families but it brought home the fact that nobody is free from this virus. All we can do is follow the rules and help to roll out the vaccines. Cases are still falling but deaths and hospital cases are still too high.
Our 21 4 21 Event ( pulling the Shelterbox 21 miles) was due for 9th June. To play it safe I changed it to October only to realise there wasn’t enough daylight hours to do it safely. In conjunction with Ben the headteacher I have now moved it back to 24th June almost the longest day. It may well be tight re- Covid restrictions then but I think with some planning we can manage it. If not we will try again later!
