Yes my “new” knee is 16 yrs old today. As a surprise for him today I did my weekly longish ride, much of it with MikeB. In total I did 62 miles but significantly I climbed 3,494 ft which is getting on for nearly the height of Snowdon. No wonder I once again had a long hot bath afterwards but this time I only nearly went to sleep! After my operation on Feb 5th 2005 my surgeon told me the knee should last between 10 to 15 years as long as I didn’t swim breastroke or run. Whoops, I have done both those but of course, I have cycled which has helped keep the muscles that surround my knee, quite strong. Strangely, I recall after he told me I would probably need a another new knee after about 15 years I remember thinking that it wouldn’t matter because I would be well into my 70’s and wouldn’t be doing any sports by then. I have been very lucky, but I have tried to keep myself reasonably fit. Because that will be helpful in March as I have entered a short course duathlon. Never done one before, strange without a swim.

Yesterday did a lot of work indoors helping to set up our website for the April “GreatHomeRun”. It is now linked to Just Giving so soon it will go live. More about that in days to come. On the same theme MikeD wanted to raise some funds for MacMillan Nurses in Kent, so I am helping him with that as well.

Today has been springlike, quite warm and sunny and in Tenterden where we stopped for coffee we sat on a Town bench in the sun enjoying take away coffee and cake. Crocuses were in bloom along with snowdrops and some daffodils. Tomorrow still quite warm but some showers for our Blackthorn day. However, come Sunday there is a beast from the east and up to 20 cm of snow is expected. Glad I have had a long run and a long ride this week.
