Our local Community Officer has arranged for 90 boxes of afternoon tea goodies in a box to go to various needy people in the parish. With financial support from the Parish Council plus our own Loose Neighbours, several members including Sue baked cakes and other goodies to go in each box. Some of the volunteers helped arrange and pack the boxes and this afternoon Sue I set off to deliver our share of about 10 boxes. They were all gratefully received but I have to say that some of the residents, all ladies in our delivery zone, looked younger than we do and live in some grander houses. I don’t know what the criteria was for selection but I am sure there were very good reasons for each one. It was wet and very cold today, so I drove the car and Sue did the deliveries, so that worked out well!
It was strange not doing our vaccine work this weekend but I hope we get some vaccines for next weekend. After our hour or so of deliveries I settled at home to do a load of admin work in preparation for our forthcoming Great Home Run event which we have now put back to April to give us a bit more time to prepare.
However, the highlight of the day was booking our holiday at the villa. After the cancellation of our flight last year we had a voucher from Easy Jet to use. We have to use the voucher soon or lose it so we have taken the plunge and booked to go for the whole of September. We have no idea what the Covid situation will be then but the relief of having booked our flight is amazing. We have something to look forward to. If it all goes ahead, with a big “IF”, then it will be two years since we were last there. I think there will be a lot of work to do in the house and garden. We have spoken to Mary our villa partner and she will arrange to come over for the final week and fly back with us. In the meantime Covid deaths are still high on a daily basis but rate of new cases is slowly decreasing. Vaccines are being given and on target. However, in Spain they are way behind so even if we are OK to fly in September we might not be allowed into Spain! Still, we have to be positive and hope everything improves.
