On top of the horror of Covid, yesterday some pro-Trump supporters broke into the Capitol and made their way into the Senate chamber. One woman was shot dead and there were three other deaths. Over 60 Trump supporters forced their way in before being brought under control, but it took 4 hours. Trump had made a speech prior to this about marching to the White House as a “protest”. He hasn’t condemned the action taken.
Oh Boy!! what is happening to democracy? the Russians and Chinese must be rubbing their hands in glee!
Meanwhile Covid marches on, over 1100 deaths in UK today, it just keeps rising. Boris keeps making promises about the massive rollout of vaccines but in parts of our county such as Tun Wells there has hardly been any. My friends in their late 80s are still waiting to hear. Many hospitals are in a critical situation with staff off sick and Covid patients continue to fill the the ICUs.
Back at home Sue and I managed a short video phone call with Mum today. She really is looking old now but was able to enjoy some photos we showed her. She got frustrated when she couldn’t remember some of our grandchildren’s names, but that is understandable. Viv his calling her tomorrow.
This afternoon Sue and I cycled into town. We went via the new bike path in King St. Anywhere else the path would be very helpful. It is clearly marked and there are posts at short intervals to physically separate bikes from the vehicles. Unfortunately, King St has very little traffic other than taxis and buses, the path only runs for about 300m and part of it ramps up right across the main bus stop in town. After that it finishes suddenly at traffic lights and the last part of the road is a bus lane. An extended bus lane along the whole of King St would have been OK, but a lot of money was spent on something dangerous near the ramped bus stop and totally unnecessary. Unfortunately, local people are blaming cyclists for encouraging the use of bike lanes. Th world has really gone mad.
