It amazes me how many people in Maidstone appear to fail to realise that we are in the highest level of precautions. We stayed at home this morning and took down all the Xmas decorations and they are now back in the loft. I know it’s not 12th night yet, but my only crime is that I am only ignoring a small tradition. In Mote Park this afternoon it looked like half the population were ensuring that they would break the law by wandering about in groups that far exceed the statutory two people from different households limit. OK so they were in the fresh air but the law is absolutely clear. Sue and I went for a short cycle ride and rode along the paths in the park. We rode slowly giving way to pedestrians and indeed many people in ones or twos kindly moved aside and were very conscious of social distancing. However, we had to stop when we got to large groups, normally of two or three households with children and dogs off their leads. Why can’t a family just go out for a walk as they are allowed to? Why do some have to join forces with several friends or neighbours, with all their children and then decide to walk as close to each other as they possibly can. Not one of them was wearing a mask, yet those couples we saw were. Perhaps the news that we are having rapidly increasing Covid cases and deaths hasn’t reached Mr and Mrs Twat yet.

We cycled home by the Medway via the tow path. Still many people out for a walk, but by and large they were sticking to the rules and were friendly and polite as we tinkled our bells as we went by. Perhaps it’s something about Mote Park. Everyone knows it is lovely with wide open spaces and I love to see it used for exercise. But the mindless nutters who think that they are immune from the virus and the law were today violating this beautiful park and quite likely spreading the virus to anyone who dares get in their way.

Oh dear, that’s another blog used up with my moans and groans! I promise to try harder to see the best in folk, which generally I do, but some people!!
