55,892 cases reported yesterday. That exceeds the highest figure back in April by 2,000. And so it goes on, ambulances queuing for up to 6 hours before for they can move their patients into the hospital. Hospital staff falling sick either with Covid or just plain exhaustion. In the meantime 50 parties in London were broken up by police and fines issued. Each had numerous groups of youngsters “enjoying” their social gatherings!

The country has gone mad. On top of the Covid crisis we have now formally said goodbye to the EU. Some are jumping for joy especially as there were no traffic hold on the ferries today. It is New Year Day though?! Sue went to Sainsbury’s and some shelves were empty and there were no lemons! A sign of things to come, or is just because everyone bought so much over Xmas? Despite my views I have to respect our country’s decision and accept whatever we have to deal with.

Some confusion over Mum’s care notes today. Apparently her daughter rang today and they had a conversation. I checked with Viv who hadn’t rung her and I asked if Mum had a daughter named Elaine who we never knew about?! Mystery solved, looks like a mix up between residents and the carer on the notes. More importantly, I have to say I am getting more worried about Mum in her isolation. She isn’t eating and drinking much and she gets very little social interaction due to all the residents being in lockdown. No fault of the hard pressed staff, who I know have several members off sick with Covid. I just feel Mum is starting to slip away. At 95 we can’t pretend that she is a fit and well lady even though she is not showing any worse signs of the Covid she has. As hard as it is to say I just hope that if the time is right to now slip away, it would be a peaceful and dignified way to go. I wonder when I read back through this blog in a few months time, I might have a little smile knowing that Mum had recovered and is back to her old self! Only time will tell.
