I had a call back from Lisa at Barty just now. Mum is not showing any signs of distress and is acting as normal. The doctor saw her to review her case today and he is not concerned. Mum may have the new variant virus which is very contagious but symptoms are not serious. They are keeping every resident isolated in their room. Mum had the positive test 9 days ago but she and all other residents, whether or not they are positive, will have to stay in their room until they all test negative. Fortunately, Mum seems OK with that, there are no residents wandering around so Mum isn’t tempted to make a break for it and chat to them!
She seems to be eating and drinking a little better so that is good. I did ask about vaccinations but Lisa suggested I speak to Donna the Asst Manager tomorrow, she will know when they might arrive. I’ll give Donna a call when Sue and I finish our shift, helping with the vaccination GP programme tomorrow.

Yesterdays record for new cases was exceeded once again and it is now the hardest time in hospitals ever. 20 to thirty ambulances parked outside waiting for admission. Some patients were given food and drink by staff members. The Govt have an emergency meeting tonight to see how best to meet the latest crisis. Most likely it will be a complete lockdown or move the entire country into Tier 4. Police were turning back people from as far away as London who wanted to go into the Brecon Beacons. The countryside is generally low risk but not when it is the scene of mass gatherings.

Meanwhile, Sue and I did a socially distance exchange of Xmas presents in a car park in Tonbridge. We met Mike and family near the castle and swapped presents. A short spaced walk around the partially flooded sports ground and then the castle grounds. A cold day and no hugs but it was good to see them again after just FaceTime at Xmas.
