Today I was informed that Mum has the virus. Despite Barty’s great efforts to keep the virus out it seems like several staff and residents have now proved positive. Mum’s test was last Monday and it took till Friday for the home to receive the positive result. A nurse rang me today to tell me.

Mum has mild symptoms and is more tired than anything and the care report tonight states that there is no need for concern. However, Mum is 95 and she doesn’t appear to be eating as well as before, which may be weakening her considerably. However, I mustn’t speculate so I will be ringing Barty every day for an update. I have informed Malc, Viv and Les and will keep them updated. Mum has now gone one week of her isolation so she has another week to go in full isolation. Let’s hope that the symptoms remain mild and she pulls through. I have no criticism of Barty House staff, they won’t tell me how many staff and residents have the virus but my guess is that several staff are at home isolating, so there is huge pressure on the remaining staff.

Our friend MaryL is slowly recovering from Covid and she is feeling better, so some good news there. There were 41,385 cases reported in the UK today, that exceeds the daily amount at the height of the first stage. It is spreading rapidly, hospitals are at breaking point, ambulances queueing for several hours at many hospitals. Hopes are now hanging on the continuing roll out of the vaccine. We start our help again at Blackthorn on Wed for three days. I have the rota of volunteers ready to go. I am so glad that Sue and I are able in a very small way to help battle this pandemic.
