Whilst scuffles broke out at Dover docks with frustrated drivers waiting to be freed from the French closure of UK freight into their country and whilst we heard about yet another mutant variant of the virus breaking out in South Africa, I had a few errands to run from home.
In the pouring rain but with temperatures in the low teens ( that’s warm for December) I was off to the farm shop to collect our Christmas order of vegetables. I negotiated a deal ( yes I can do it why not Boris?!) with the girls in the shop to reduce our number of brussels and broccoli and save £3. The boss realised what had happened and banned the girls from giving any more reductions. This was all because we had ordered enough to feed Stuart and his family on Xmas Day. Being in Tier 4 that will not now happen of course. However, later Sue and I went to collect the ordered turkey, no discount there I am afraid so it will be turkey sandwiches through till the summer!
Next stop was to take Mum’s Xmas gifts and cards in a sealed bag to Barty House. I handed it over to a staff member who came out to meet me in her PPE. I was not allowed anywhere near the door as that is the rule now. More cases of Covid in the home but Mum still seems to be OK.
Did a bit more admin adding a few more names to my vaccine volunteer list. Several of our team helped out at the Bower Mount Practice which needed assistance. We have some brilliant volunteers.
