Probably helped by the new variant strain of the virus, cases are increasing rapidly, mainly in the South East and East. France have stopped all transport from the UK for at least 48 hrs and the M20 Operation Stack is in place with lorries backing up as far as Maidstone. They are opening the 2000 vehicle lorry park at Manston and will be moving some there. Flights between UK and dozens of European countries have been stopped as well. On top of this the Govt is still trying to get some sort of deal over Brexit! Why don’t they get an agreement to delay the end of transition and concentrate on getting rid of this awful virus. We now have a friend at the end of our road who has been very poorly with Covid. He is recovering but very slowly. He has young children so he is quite young. It is very close to home now.
Meanwhile we are trying to do our bit. Our 3 and a bit days at Blackthorn GPs ended tonight. All 975 vaccines have been used which is fantastic. I popped back tonight to help clear up and there was a queue of young people waiting to get a jab. It appears that after the elderly people had had theirs there was some left so NHS staff were sent along to get theirs.
We have now been told that more vaccine should arrive on 29th Dec so I am now starting on a rota for 30th, 31st and Jan 1st. Once again Andy, Sue and I will do the end of the 29th if the vaccine is ready, then we will do first two shifts on each of the three days. Then there is another consignment arriving hopefully on 8th Jan, so that will be another new rota.
Our volunteers have been fantastic and the surgery is getting great feedback on excellent medical arrangements and also our back up organisation. There is no way that Sue and I are going to get bored in Tier 4 there is far too much to do! Anyway I’ll try and get the next rota sorted tomorrow then a few days break over Xmas.
