Due to the massive rise in Covid cases in Kent and much of the South and East, the promised 5 day Xmas break from precautions has been cancelled. We are now in a new Tier 4. We cannot have anyone other than one family in the house so family Xmas gatherings are banned. Lots of criticism of Boris who only a few days ago was insistent that the break could go ahead, In fairness though, the rise in cases is dramatic and getting worse than was in April. Scientist have partly blamed a mutant virus which started in Kent, which is capable of spreading very quickly. Having said that pictures on the TV and papers showing hordes of people shopping in London, it makes our blood boil! So many are just spreading the disease.
We are now into our 2nd full day of the Blackthorn GPs vaccine delivery. The rota has worked well except for two volunteers who didn’t turn up so Andy and I went straight there to cover for them. It turns out they never received my confirmation of that shift. Either that or they lost it in their email box. Lesson learned, for the next session starting on 9th January, I will only use those volunteers who confirm their allocated shifts by a certain day. We could have also done with a little bit more flexibility and some reading of the instructions by a couple of our Rotarian Shift Leaders!. Tomorrow heavy rain is forecast so that should be fun!
On Friday we watched online the funeral of Albert my school friend. He had a heart condition but even so, 73 is no age! RIP Albert.
