I have just spent best part of two days preparing a volunteers rota to help with stewarding at the Barming GP Practice next Friday till Sunday. This will be the first Maidstone Covid vaccination programme. It has been compressed into three long days as once the vaccine arrives it must be used within five days so the surgery is going to do it in three. This vaccine has to be stored at 70 degrees below and then used quickly.
Through our Rotary club, we have been able to round up to about 30 people. Some are Rotarians and some have come from the Maidstone BC Community Hub. That was set up when the outbreak started back in March. I am maintaining a list and when this is all over I may have a good working number for our our Rotary Hub that I have been putting together. However, at the moment it is all about Covid. Once the first vaccines are done on the over 80s after Xmas we will get another lot of vaccines to continue and so on right through till the Spring. This particular vaccine requires the person to have another jab in a fortnight’s time. I will become an expert at juggling names, dates and times by then!
Sue and I will be on the early shifts from next Friday with my friend Andy who is leading on this. We will be assisting with car parking and stewarding people into the surgery making sure there is proper social distancing and PPE worn. After their vaccination they have to stay and be supervised for for 15 mins before they are allowed to leave. We are going to look at the logistics with the GP who is leading the NHS team on Monday.
In the meantime I managed a 50 mile bike ride today, great ride and yesterday I visited Mum. She is still doing really well. I’ll next see her on Xmas Day. Barty have put up a whole body sanitiser spray by the front door. A very fine mist doesn’t make you wet but I suppose it helps reduce the chance of taking the virus into the building.
