Today Maidstone’s Covid cases per 100, 000 are 313. Swale, Medway and Thanet are each over 500 cases yet almost every other area in the country is showing a good decline in cases. The UK R number is now under 1.

However, our corner of Kent keeps rising. Not good I am sorry to say. From Wed the whole of Kent goes into Tier 3 which means we are not supposed to leave the county. Perversely though, all English shops will open in all Tiers so where is the sense in that? I guess it’s maintaining the balance between keeping the numbers of deaths down whilst stopping the country from becoming bankrupt. I am glad I am not a politician.

We heard today how my friend and ex-classmate Albert died last week. Apparently he had had a heart operation a few years ago which left him quite vulnerable. Last week he fell coming out of a shop and was taken to hospital. There he caught Covid and quickly died. So that is the second friend and classmate of mine who has died recently from Covid. RIP Albert and Ray.

This morning I took the last few bags of Xmas goodies to the Involve shop in town where they are busy preparing the hampers. They will let me know when it’s time for us to help with deliveries.

I managed my first What’s App video with Mum. Taking Viv’s idea, I typed words on my PC along with some photos and used my phone camera to show Mum. She cannot hear via the phone so with help from Lisa her carer, we managed to communicate for a short while. Sue joined me and that is the first time in a few months that Mum has seen Sue and vice-versa. I will try another link up in a couple of weeks. Viv is doing some as well. Mum seemed a bit confused at first but chirped up once we got going.
