The past two days has been busy. Yesterday Sue and I cycled to Detling to visit the Community Store for coffee and their brilliant locally sourced sausage rolls. Plus as it was Black Friday home made chocolate cake was half price so I couldn’t resist it. We had to sit outside of course, but it was most enjoyable. Sue did well cycling up there on her re-vamped bike. Unfortunately, the middle gears were slipping so she had a few problems. Undaunted, we left via the Pilgrims Way to Thurnham, Bearsted and back to Senacre cycles where Cedric rectified the problem in under a minute. The bike runs like a dream now, Sue is thrilled.
Meanwhile Kent is hitting the headlines as there are protests against the whole of Kent being in Tier 3 when it is only Swale and Thanet whose figures are rising quickly. However, I do agree with the decision, as as to divide up boroughs would cause even more problems. In Groombridge in Sussex for example, half the village is East Sussex and half in Kent so one pub can stay open whilst the other has to close. i feel sorry for businesses in that situation.
Nationally, the R figure has dropped to just below 1, which is brilliant except that other areas including Maidstone, which is now on 296 cases per 100, 000, is still rising.
Today Sue and I joined volunteers to help pack boxes of goodies for the Young Lives charity. They aim to prepare some 2000 boxes for youngsters the charity are helping. These are young people who for a variety of reasons such as coming out of care, trouble at school etc are given a helping hand to face life and make something of it. A great charity which Rotary President Elect Steve is nominating next year as his main charity. Sue and are back again on Monday afternoon.
