This morning Sue and I watched Eric’s funeral online. It was very moving with plenty of tributes and poems from Glynis and Glyn. The celebrant also read out the poem written by my brother Malc about Eric’s life including when we were kids. It was beautifully done and I shed a few tears. The stories told during the service reminded me of anecdotes that I remember, which I will pass on to Glynis in due course.

When I was 16, I visited Eric in Wales, which was quite regular since our Dad Eric, died a few years before. On this occasion I had just joined as a cadet Fireman and was told that as soon as I was 17 I would go on a 2 week concentrated driving course and then take my test at the end. This worried me because I had nobody at home to give me some practice and of course, I was still only 16. When I told Eric, he drove me onto the quiet roads of Denbigh Moors in his old van, then got out and handed me the controls. Totally illegal but as he said nobody much comes up here. So that was my one and only driving lesson before my course, and on return I passed my test first time. Thanks Eric, what a great guy, may you rest in peace.

As I write there is no result in the USA Presidential election. It appears Biden is edging closer as they are still counting postal votes. Trump thinks there is cheating going on with the vote but has no evidence to support it. He intends lodging a law suit just in case he loses!

Whilst cases of Covid continue to rise, the rate of the rise has levelled out very slightly in England. 1 in every 90 people now have the disease. A glimmer of hope, let’s hope the lockdown helps.

This afternoon I went for my first run or should I say jog, for about 3 weeks. I did the off road Loose Valley run and enjoyed the sun shining through the trees. I did just over 5 Km but in a slow time. I will build on that through the winter.
R.I.P Dear Eric
