November has started quietly for us. A miserable weather day but there was a break in the rain this afternoon so Sue and I had a short walk around the scout land. Other than that reading the paper and me messing about on the computer. FB reports that the town was gridlocked this morning and the shops had massive queues at the big stores. Looks like panic buying is back with us again! What possesses these people, a lot of stores will be open for essential goods after Thursday’s lockdown. Trouble now will be the need to re-stock because someone wanted several hundred toilet rolls! We are looking forward to visiting our out of town farm shop on our bikes.

Last night I had a swift reply from the hotel in Bournemouth saying that we can rebook our two night stay. We have chosen 10th and 11th December. Sue’s pedicure is also booked as is our birthday meal. So last night I was feeling quite optimistic. Unfortunately, today Michael Gove has indicated that the lockdown is likely to be extended if there is insufficient reduction of cases. On top of that the highest current cases in the South is now Bournemouth so even if the lockdown isn’t extended the tier system will be used so it is most likely that the hotel will remain closed. We might have to re-book again for the new year!

We did start one very important job today. All of our personal finances are dealt with by Sue. a) she has a great banking background and b) she enjoys doing it. This means that I have never really bothered and I should. As we are now less than a week away from our 51st wedding anniversary I really think it’s time that I know how to deal with it… just in case. We are not getting any younger. So I had my first tutorial this morning and I now know how to access our current account and have some idea of how to reconcile statements. However, I am looking forward to my first solo attempt with my tutor looking on, very soon. In all seriousness there was reminder on the Martin Lewis Money programme this week pressing the point that all couples should both know their way around their finances.
