Today I helped set up a stand and display board and spent the day at Brookside Garden Centre to promote the end polio campaign that Rotary support. Only two countries left in the world where polio is endemic, Pakistan and Afghanistan. We hoped to raise some funds but weren’t too optimistic with all the emphasis on Covid at present. Whilst understandable, we did have a couple of negative comments including “why worry about other countries when you should be raising money for Manchester?!!” Clearly, the dear lady thinks that everyone in Manchester is on the bread line. However, there were a few generous people so we came away with enough to make it worthwhile. Importantly, we had the chance to promote the cause and also our Rotary Club.
Mixed results in our local football today. After a great start to the season Maidstone managed to lose to a 1 nil penalty, saved by Maidstone’s ex-goalie! Maidstone also missed two penalties. On the other extreme, my old team that I used to support with my Grandad, Tonbridge Angels won 5-0 to progress to the 1st round proper of the FA Cup. The first time since 1972! C’mon the Angels!
Importantly though, Dannie’s team won 9-0 and Toby’s 5-0, great play boys!
