I did a 50 mile ride today accompanied by friend Mike. Good weather and a pleasant coffee stop at Brookside Nursery at East Peckham. We tried Hadlow College but their cafe was closed, another one that closed for the pandemic duration.
More towns now added to Tier 2 including Slough which is not far away from Stuart and family in Reading. Not looking good. Had a letter from Barty today warning that following Govt guidance we are nearing a stage where visitors can only wave through a window from outside. Whilst i understand the reasoning I don’t think Mum will be too happy. My immediate reaction is to not attend and rely on FaceTime like Viv does. I think Mum will not fully understand why I can’t go in to talk to her. If we move into Tier 2 which is very likely, then there will be no visits at all. I am hoping that if Mum remains reasonably happen then she won’t be overly bothered. We shall see. I will visit tomorrow, maybe it will be the last one for some considerable time.
I watched the highlights of the Vuelta de Espana tonight. Some good racing. However, we now understand that the huge mountain climb the Tourmalet will not go ahead on Sunday as will another climb which is on the French side of the Pyrenees. Looks like the French are tightening up their borders even more due to the spread of the virus. Oh dear it’s going from bad to worse, our trip to Spain next April (not booked yet) is looking less likely.
