Good visit to Mum today. Usual start – dizziness etc but she couldn’t hear me at all. I was told to move further away from her by the staff due to the Covid rules. 2m is a long distance from someone who can’t hear. I checked her hearing aid and the battery was dead. Staff changed it and from then on we could have a good conversation. I showed Mum photos of Devon and the kids on my iPad. She loved seeing them and I gave her a letter and photos from Malc which she later took to her room. We managed to chat right through the session and although she was repeating herself regularly she said how nice it was being there and the staff are lovely. All in all it was a good visit. Next week I shall ring in the morning to make sure the hearing aid is working OK before I get there! I’ve just read the care notes for today, it appears Mum played bingo and joined in a sing a long with the other residents after I left! She is certainly not unhappy! Clearly didn’t mind me leaving! However, as I was about to leave it was nice to hear her say to me that she enjoyed seeing me. Bless her. I am cycling with Les tomorrow so I will bring him up to date, he will be pleased that she is doing OK.

On the way home I popped into the bike shop for some bits and pieces and Nic the owner was there looking really well. He has had several months of chemo but has survived Pancreatic cancer and apparently it is now clear. Great to see him back at the shop.

This evening I did a 5k run with the Mote Runners. First one for many weeks. I ran with Jennie one of the girls in our group as we had a similar pace and could chat, I say girl but she is probably mid 60’s ! Pace was inevitably a bit quicker than when I run alone so I have a bit of a pain again in my left hip. Can’t understand why, its made of metal!

Bike tomorrow- yippee!
