It was great to be back leading our San Fairy Ann CC Saturday bike ride. A pleasant sunny day with a chill in the air early on but plenty of sunshine. I met the group at Marden then the seven of us set off for the Friars at Aylesford. Somewhat hilly route but that is inevitable when heading north. The Friars cafe was very well run and it was lovely to sit outside in the sunshine. However, looking at the one photo I took it has to be one of the worst I have ever taken. I did ask them to smile, but with one exception the response was disappointing to say the least! It was great to have Colin and Sarah join us after a couple of years doing other things, but as they and Marsh lived locally we were down to four for the journey back to Marden. I decided to skirt around Maidstone, which was somewhat hairy. Roundabouts, duel carriageways and loads of traffic we had to have our wits about us. Arriving at Chart Sutton I bid farewell as I had no wish to go down Chart Hill only to climb back afterwards to return home. All was well and it was great day out. Home in time for me to do a 2.19 mile run and then watch a brilliant Tour de France race which resulted in Adam Yates just about hanging on to the yellow jersey for another day.

No news on Mum’s quarantine release, so I expect it will be on Monday assuming she has a a negative swab test result. She seems to have an OK day today but from the nursing care she is now receiving it does look like she is struggling somewhat. Hopefully, I will get to see her on Monday.

Worrying time now with Covid. Cases are on the increase in some towns where special measures are being put in place and there is concern that young people going back to University are likely to spread the virus without necessarily showing symptoms themselves. We still have difficult times.

Cheer up you miserable lot!
