The last couple of days the infection has fought to take over my entire life but today I filled up with pills and decided I needed fresh air. Yesterday was a wash out as Storm Francis passed through, so today I cycled to Cranbrook to meet the Wobblers. A lovely day and reasonably warm. Les was with us as he was just back from a few days rest after having the majority of his teeth removed and we were able to compare notes. Coffee and cake in the “Food for Thought” cafe, where we were made very welcome by the lovely ladies who run it. Not the slimmest of ladies, they do a grand job and make wonderful chocolate and banana cake. A shortish ride back the Lord Raglan pub, where again all the Covid precautions are dealt with very well indeed. Just the plum crumble and ice cream (nice on the tooth) a farewell to my friends and off home. Just 32 miles today but that was plenty for me today.
After a shower and change I drove off to Sainsbury’s to collect Sue from the hairdressers where she has been most of the day and I helped her with the shopping. Job done and then on the way home I received a call from Barty House. A well meaning carer said that Mum wanted to speak to me on the phone. Mum got very upset and said she wanted me to go and see her as she is very dizzy. I tried to explain that she had lots of people to help her there. She had no idea that I cannot visit because of the rules for Covid nor did she understand she was in quarantine having returned from hospital. She was very upset and could barely hear me. It wasn’t such a good idea. Poor Mum she has really started to go down hill. Mind you it hasn’t stopped her giving the carers the slip and popping down the corridor to talk to residents. Fortunately, quickly stopped by staff. Despite these moments according to her care notes, she seems to be coping very well. Still no teeth or hearing aid though!
Only one more day till my tooth extraction, I am really looking forward to it! I am also looking forward to the weeks holiday I have booked near Malc and Anne in Devon. We are booked into a lovely B&B called the Beehive which we love. The owners’ Covid arrangements include only having one set of visitors at a time, so we should have a peaceful time, get to see Malc and family and hopefully get some fresh air walks and bike rides. We go on the 15th September the day after one of my visits to Mum. So at least I can give Malc a recent update on her.
