Back home now after a few busy days with the boys and my dizziness had receded a little. Yesterday morning I took James for a 9 mile bike ride on the tandem. He is taller and stronger now and is a very useful stoker. He was very sensible and we had a great time. Called into Ralph’s farm shop where I reserved an old fashioned scythe which I will put to great effect in the autumn when I cut back the long grass in our “Upper Meadow”. Whilst at Ralph’s, I was talked into buying some locally grown cherries which James managed to eat whilst using just leg power as we cycled back home.

In the afternoon we went to Northiam for our kayak session. Cafe now open so had burgers and coffee then onto the River Rother, great fun. Alex and James each had a single kayak and Sue and I had the double. I was taking videos and photos so Sue did most of the paddling. It is a lovely safe river and the boatyard people are very friendly and have done a good job in getting their business up and running again following lockdown easing on Saturday.

Then onto Camber Sands and had an evening with all the family in their lovely rented house. James is having a problem with excess commuter games and gets really distressed when Mike limits his time. I think both the boys were very tired so we thought that might be a factor. Unfortunately, after a good night’s sleep James was not in a good place and so the outbursts continued. Very tiring and upsetting for us all. I think the lack of social school activity hasn’t helped but that is not an excuse for his bad behaviour. However, it was a lovely sunny morning so went to the beach early and the tide was right out and just turning so we did have some good fun including burying Alex in the sand and the boys spending some time in the sea. I kept a close watch on the tide movement unfinished up with soaked shorts and pants.

After a calmer lunch we bid them all goodbye and hoped they enjoy their short holiday till Friday. Not a good weather forecast tomorrow but I am sure they will find plenty to do. We drove home and stopped at Ralph’s to buy the scythe which will now be displayed on the garage wall to give the meadow a rustic feel. Dizziness comes and goes at the moment. Interestingly, a couple of years ago Mike had vertigo which had the same effect but his was a lot worse than mine.

Alex heads out for his first ever solo.
Caring Brothers?!
