Today the powers that be reduced the level of risk from Covid 19. It is now down from 4 to 3. This means that the virus is general across the country and action will be taken to continue to reduce the risk further. There will be concentration on test and trace in areas of hotspots. HOWEVER, we mustn’t relax yet. The virus hasn’t gone away and the 2 m rule is still in place although there are a lot of business’ s and schools screaming to reduce it to 1 m as in other countries and the WHO guidance. The Govt needs us to still be vigilant and follow the rules. Unfortunately, from what I have seen today a lot of people think it’s all over!

I went for my weekly lake swim at Leybourne today. The watersports centre are doing a great job of ensuring safe distance and safe working practices. But looking around the throng of people enjoying the park itself, there were groups of dozens of people who seem to have no idea that there has ever been a vicious pandemic. Despite all this I had a lovely 1800m swim around the lake. Just me and the ducks, we had a great time.

Yesterday, Ray’s wife Diane phoned me and asked me if I would read a poem at Ray’s funeral on Monday. I was honoured and accepted. When I received a copy of the poem and read it I did wonder if I would manage it OK. It is very moving and poignant.

Spent some of yesterday and today clearing Mum’s flat. I took the big photos of her great grandchildren and the old one of Mum with her grandchildren when they were very young to Barty House. They will be put on the wall in her room today. I am starting to bring boxes of stuff and other items home to store in the garage, Sue’s car will be staying on the drive for a while now.

A few days of a heatwave middle of next week, that’ll bring the hordes onto the beaches!
