Unsurprisingly, the Govt announced that lockdown will go on for at least another 3 weeks. Sue and I are coping OK, just frustrating not seeing the family. However, families living in high rise flats with no garden it must be a nightmare. I have heard the sad news that a past KFB friend of mine has died of Covid-19. I have no other details but is very sad and the first person I knew personally who has died of the virus.
Good programme last night about how the hospitals are managing, it featured Maidstone and Tun Wells and there was also a clip about the Assessment Centre in Mote Park that I have had some small involvement with. Our local hospitals front line staff are doing a great job but under considerable stress. Overall though the hospitals are not bursting at the seams at the moment. Hope it stays like that before reducing further, in Italy when they were at our stage, there were patients laying in the corridors as there were no beds available.
A bit more housework and gardening today and then another nice walk along the valley and once again we trod some paths we have never walked before. At Bockingford we took the path into Hayle Place Nature Reserve. Never realised how big it is (40 acres) and how well it has been prepared and maintained by their Trust. 3.67 miles today so that’s another £8 for Parkinsons!
Congratulations to Captain Tom 99yrs old, set out to raise £1k for NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden to celebrate his 100th birthday. The power of social media, he has raised £15 million! Amazing and well done.
Apart for the walk no other exercise for me today other than having a foot spar in the garden and then cutting my toe nails. Another interesting snippet, the state of female TV presenters hair now is awful, clearly do not have anyone in their household who can wield the scissors. One exception is Natalie Graham on BBC South East whose partner must be a hairdresser or is a skilful amateur.
It’s Thursday night and once again everyone steps outside their home to clap the NHS and other essential workers. Our next door neighbours let their eldest son out to join in. He seems to be enjoying the occasion.
