Lazy day at home today following our rather excessive walk yesterday. Weather still very warm and sunny. A bit of gentle gardening this morning but I did manage to sweep and tidy my garage, well, a bit of tidying anyway. All interspersed with some dozing in the sun in the back garden oh yes and Sue gave me a very satisfactory haircut!
Got a call at lunchtime from Mum’s carer. She had arrived to find burnt sausages in the pan and some smoke in the kitchen which needed to be ventilated. Once again Mum has tried to use the cooker hubs and left them switched on and then forgot they were on. Quite a worry now as I had to throw away a burnt frying pan last week. Maybe we might have to have the hob disconnected, I really must try and encourage Mum to let the carers make her dinner. She is still convinced she can do the cooking herself and only occasionally lets the carer cook a ready meal for her to eat at lunchtime. Sue and I will go and see her tomorrow, a difficult one to deal with.
Last night we joined in the 8.00pm weekly national NHS Thank You Clapping. It’s getting louder each week with pots and pans being banged. Last week we saw the FB video of Toby playing his complete set of drums by the front door! However, looking at FB this morning there was a video of brother Malc playing what looked like home made drums with Queen provided the backing. I had to watch several times before I could believe it was Malc, bearing in mind his movement difficulties due to his Parkinson’s. What a guy! I am so humbled and proud of the way he gets on with his life despite all the problems he has. There is little I can do to help in a practical way but it inspired me to increase my £1 per mile self sponsor efforts ( see Blog 30 March). Sue and I are doing regular walks for our exercise on some days so I am going to include £1 per mile for these walks as well as the runs. These will be from the start of lockdown on 23rd March until lockdown is ultimately removed, which is likely to be some considerable time yet.
