Having done the standard distance Aquabike in June I moved up to Middle Distance. This is half ironman distance but not at all in the same league as the real ironman which includes the half or full distance marathon. The nice thing about Aqua is that when you rack the bike at the end of the ride you have about ten steps to the finish line! However, I would love to be able to do the run but it would be foolish as my knee replacement is now 8 years old and I want it last much longer. Can’t complain though it is great to be able to do my two favourite sports in one event so I will stick with it. I think I will have a go at the full distance next year which is 3.8km swim and 180Km ride. I will need to train though and I certainly could not ride at the pace I did today. However, it will be something to aim for and a great personal challenge.
Today I was the second oldest competitor in all the distance events. All credit though to John Brown who took part in the half distance inc the run. He is in the 75 -79 age group! Not sure how he has got on but what a guy! Very pleased with my overall time of 4hrs 14 mins.
